We are looking for an Auto Electrician to join our team.

Days and Hours of Work: Mon-Fri 8hrs per day, Saturday 4 hrs by arrangement
Annual Leave: 4 weeks paid leave per year
Location of Work: Kaitaia, Northland, New Zealand
Full-Time / Part-Time: Full-time
Permanent / Temporary / Casual: Permanent

JOB PRE-REQUISITES

Years of Experience / Qualifications / Endorsements:

  • NZ Residence or Work Permit
  • Auto Electrical Engineering Trade Certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience in workshop setting
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Good computer and keyboard skills
  • NZ or International private car drivers licence for manual and automatic transmission.
  • Heavy Transport drivers licence preferable
  • Customer Service experience preferable

JOB DESCRIPTION - AUTO ELECTRICIAN

During the course of work, the Employee may be responsible for some or all of the following daily tasks:

  • Using diagnostic equipment to locate electrical and electronic problems
  • Carrying out tests to diagnose faulty components
  • Discussing problems with clients
  • Recording any other potential faults the diagnostic test equipment tells you are likely to occur in the future
  • Repairing automotive electrical systems
  • Replacing electrical components on vehicles (e.g. starters, alternators etc)
  • Battery fitment and problem solving
  • Cleaning and overhauling components
  • Working on complex electronic systems, such as engine management systems, ABS brakes, airbags, and electronically controlled gearboxes
  • Fixing problems on instrument panels, such as speedometers and fuel and oil gauges
  • Installing mobile entertainment systems such as car radios, DVD and CD players
  • Installing car security systems
  • Working on air-conditioning systems
  • Helping customers decide what parts and accessories are needed for vehicles
  • Keeping records of all parts and labour time to be charged out
  • Delivering and picking up customers and/or their cars where necessary
  • Delivering and picking up cars from other workshops where necessary
  • Answering telephone enquiries and taking work shop bookings
  • Maintaining health and safety and security on the workshop floor
  • Operating relevant areas of the computer system
  • Suggesting and implementing improved work methods and systems
  • Mentoring and guiding an apprentice auto electrician if requested
  • Asking other staff to assist where appropriate
  • Being in sole charge of the premises when necessary
  • Relieving other staff when required
  • Holding a full, valid New Zealand or international drivers licence at all times.

  • Use good communication skills, use English language properly, communicate regularly and courteously with other staff and the Employer
  • Be well organised and maintain a clean workbench, especially when working with electronics
  • Be skilled and careful when working with small, delicate components
  • Treat vehicles and equipment with care and respect
  • Report any accidents as soon as they occur
  • Make every effort to learn and keep up to date with basic engineering, automotive electronics principals, electrical theory and circuit diagrams, and the basic mechanics of vehicles
  • Make every effort to learn and keep up to date with different vehicle makes and models, and their parts and accessories
